Sydney Veterinarian dog beaches

Sydney Veterinarian’s top 3 off-leash dog beaches

Dr Hamish Bathgate, our very own Sydney veterinarian, absolutely loves taking his two dogs to the beach for a swim. Like most dogs, Tilly and Banjo love romping on the beach, feeling the sand beneath their paws and eagerly plunging into the water or tentatively placing in a paw and bolting out. There are some great beaches and waterways in Sydney to take your pooch. We’ve listed our Dr Hamish’s top three here!

Greenhills Beach | Cronulla

North of Wanda, dogs romp in the surf off-leash before 10am and after 4pm every day. At all other times, dogs are prohibited. This spectacular stretch of beach is a wonderful place to exercise two and four legged family members. NB: For the walk across the grassy Wanda Reserve, dogs must be on leash.

Bonna Point Silver Beach | Kurnell

From the western end of serene Silver Beach at Bonna Point Reserve, dogs are able to swim, walk and run off-leash to their heart’s content, around the clock. Just make sure you stay between the third and fourth groynes as dogs are not permitted on any other part of Silver Beach.

Dumaresq Reserve l Rose Bay

It’s a bit of a drive, but this dog beach is worth the trip. Dogs are permitted on-leash anytime and off-leash between 4:30pm and 8:30am. There’s more space to run at low tide, but it’s always gorgeous here. You might have to park up the hill on New South Head Road as parking is limited at the beach.
